Escondido Closes Park Avenue Community Center Shuffleboard Building for Repairs; Chess Club Relocated

ESCONDIDO, San Diego County — October 26, 2026. People who use the Park Avenue Community Center should check their regular schedule before arriving. The city announced on October 12 that the center’s Shuffleboard Building is closed until further notice for building repairs, causing changes to at least two recurring programs.

Which programs are affected?

According to the City of Escondido’s official notice, the Shuffleboard Club is canceled during the closure. Its previous schedule was Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The cancellation applies to club sessions at that facility; the city has not announced a specific date when the building can reopen.

The Chess Club has moved temporarily to the Cedar Room and is scheduled to continue Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 3 p.m. Visitors who attend for the first time should confirm room access and the latest posted program hours with community-center staff.

What is known about the repairs?

The city’s notice describes building repairs but does not specify the full construction scope, contractor, estimated cost or reopening deadline. California58 is therefore not reporting a structural failure, unsafe conditions elsewhere at the center or a confirmed reopening date.

Residents should not assume all Park Avenue Community Center activities are canceled. The announced changes specifically concern the shuffleboard facility and the relocation of chess programming.

How to keep up with updates

The best source for a reopening announcement is the city’s recreation program information or the official news page. Regular visitors may wish to confirm schedules before making transportation arrangements, especially when a program has been temporarily moved to another room.
