Preliminary election-night results
Official source snapshot: November 3, 2026, 8:05:46 p.m. Pacific. Dane M. White led Escondido’s reported mayoral tally at this update, with a margin of 2,068 votes over Elias Velazquez. This is an incomplete count, not a declaration of victory.
| Candidate | Votes | Share of reported candidate votes |
|---|---|---|
| Dane M. White | 13,578 | 54.12% |
| Elias Velazquez | 11,510 | 45.88% |
The table comes from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters’ results dashboard, linked from its official election page. Percentages describe candidate votes reported in this contest, not the proportion of the final electorate counted.
The registrar says its first release includes mail ballots received before Election Day and early vote-center ballots from October 24 through November 2. Later election-night reports add Election Day vote-center ballots. Additional mail-ballot processing and verification continue after Election Day. Totals and margins may change; these results are unofficial until canvass and certification.
Read the registrar’s explanation of the count and consult its dashboard for later updates. The campaign reporting below supplies context and does not establish a personal voting appearance beyond the sources explicitly identified.
ESCONDIDO, California — Incumbent Dane M. White and challenger Elias Velazquez are competing for mayor in the November 3, 2026, election, with homelessness, public safety and the future of local parks among the issues in their published campaigns.
The San Diego County Registrar of Voters’ candidate list identifies White as the incumbent mayor and Velazquez as a nonprofit executive. California58 has not independently verified either candidate’s personal voting time, method or location.
White: treatment, accountability and services
White’s official campaign website connects his experience of homelessness and addiction to a policy emphasizing assistance, sobriety and accountability. He advocates a permanent local shelter and continued efforts to move people out of encampments and into services.
His platform also calls for stronger public-safety recruitment, training and equipment, more opportunities for homeownership, streamlined permitting and support for small businesses. It highlights roads and infrastructure as further priorities.
The campaign credits his administration with improvements in homelessness counts and other outcomes. Those claims should be distinguished from an independent finding that a particular policy caused a change; this article does not make that causal claim.
Velazquez: housing partnerships and park protection
Velazquez’s campaign emphasizes partnerships with service providers to move people into housing and employment. He supports ending the city’s ICE contract, arguing that doing so would strengthen residents’ trust in local law enforcement.
He also opposes locating an ice rink at the expense of softball at Kit Carson Park or soccer at Ryan Park. His website says he supports a rink at a different location. On safety, he calls for investment in both law enforcement and prevention programs.
A documented policy contrast
Earlier KPBS reporting contrasted White’s treatment-oriented homelessness approach with Velazquez’s preference for providing stable housing alongside tailored support. Their statements identify a substantive choice over city policy; they do not establish a new Election Day appearance or a final election result.
