Escondido Park Avenue Community Center: Shuffleboard Closed, Chess Club Moved to Cedar Room

ESCONDIDO — October 26, 2026. Residents using the Park Avenue Community Center (PACC) should know that its Shuffleboard Building remains closed for repairs until further notice. The city first announced the restriction October 12, and it has not published a firm reopening date in that notice.

Which activities are affected?

The Shuffleboard Club is cancelled during the closure. Its regular schedule would otherwise have been Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. By contrast, the Chess Club has not been cancelled; it has temporarily moved to the Cedar Room and continues on Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 3 p.m.

These distinctions are important for regular visitors, including seniors and residents using scheduled transport. The closure concerns the named building, not every Park Avenue Community Center service. The city does not specify an emergency hazard or confirm a particular cause of the building repairs.

How to check for reopening

Residents should look for updates on the city’s official news and community programs pages before visiting and ask the center about accessible entry or any changes to activities.
