ESCONDIDO, San Diego County — October 26, 2026. Escondido Fire Department released details today of a commercial building fire on October 23 at 1479 Industrial Avenue. Firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the roof of a one-story building when the first unit reached the scene after an approximately 5:03 a.m. dispatch.

Second alarm brought additional crews

Because of the building’s size and the risk of flames spreading, crews requested a second alarm. The department says nine fire engines, three truck companies, two rescue ambulances and three battalion chiefs responded. Firefighters located and contained the fire, preventing it from spreading through the entire building.

The unit where the fire originated suffered significant damage, while adjoining units sustained relatively minor damage. The city reported no injuries associated with the incident.

Investigation remains open

Escondido Police assisted with road closures and neighboring fire departments from San Marcos, Rancho Santa Fe and Vista helped at the scene. The Fire Department says the cause remains under investigation. There is no official basis in the public release to call the fire arson, name a suspect or make claims about the building’s owner or business activities.

The blaze took place October 23; the October 26 date refers to the publication of the departmental report, not a new fire today.
